School sports partnership
opportunity and variety
The School Sports Partnership Initiative is one work strand of the Government's P.E & Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) document that replaced the Physical Education, School Sport and Club links Strategy (PESSCL).
School Sports Partnerships (SSP's) are families of secondary and primary schools that work together to enhance the quality of sporting opportunities, through the curriculum, Out of School Hours Learning, inter-school competitions and school to club links. A typical School Sports Partnership will consist of: Partnership Development Manager and a Competition manager.
School Sport Coordinators (SSCO's) SSCO's based in secondary schools concentrate on improving sporting opportunities by developing out of school hours learning and club links across a family of schools. These club links give local sports clubs and coaches a chance to demonstrate their sport while giving pupils the opportunity to experience a sporting activity they would probably never get the chance to try. ACS-Design and Leisure have supported Bedfordshire based SSCO's with martial arts and games clubs sessions as follows:
- Luton 6th form college - jujitsu demo and have a go session
- Hightown Recreation Centre - martial arts and boxing activity day
- Bramingham Primary School - after school jujitsu club
- Henlow Middle School - sports activity day
- Russell Lower School Ampthill - sports activity day
- Holywell Middle School Cranfield - sports activity day
